Where Should a Tax Advisor Advertise?

Tax advertising has one rule that overrides all the others. The money is spent in a window, and the window is short.

A dollar spent in October buys attention nobody is paying. The same dollar in late January competes hard but converts.

Here is the order, and the calendar.

Your existing client list is the highest-return channel you have, and the one most easily lost by silence.

A reminder in December, a document request in January, and a check-in mid-year keeps a one-off filer from drifting to whoever emails them first.

The moment to ask is right after delivery, when the client is relieved.

Ask specifically. "Do you know anyone else who is self-employed and dreading this?" produces far more than a general request.

"Tax preparer near me" and "CPA for self-employed in [city]" spike in January.

A complete Google Business Profile with reviews, and a site naming your city and the situations you handle, captures that. Build it in autumn. Rankings do not appear on demand.

Tax keywords are seasonal and competitive. Budget concentrated from early January through the filing deadline outperforms the same amount spread across twelve months.

Target situations rather than the generic term. "Tax preparer for rental property" converts better than "tax preparer."

Bookkeepers, financial advisors, attorneys and real estate agents all meet people who need a tax professional.

Bookkeepers in particular are the most natural partner, because they are already inside the client's finances and do not compete with you.

If you serve individual filers locally, visibility in the community matters: local groups, employer sessions, and community organizations.

Low volume, high trust, and it holds year after year.

Keep your existing clients, ask for referrals at delivery, build local search in autumn, and load the paid budget into January through April.

The channel choices are ordinary. The timing is what separates practices.
